LHS Zumbathon for Special Olympics

imageCenterfit Folks:

I was sent this email recently and wanted to share this neat activity with you as it is a great cause, a great workout, and reasonably priced.

It is a 2 1/2 hour Zumba class, and proceeds go toward the Special Olympics.  I am a big fan of the Special Olympics and try to support whenever I can, although I am probably not that good at Zumba.  However, I sure am going to give this a shot, and I’d love to have you join me if you’d like to.

Many of you already know that I have a twin brother who has special needs.  He has Down’s Syndrome, autism, he is blind, and he is legally deaf.  There was a time when he participated in the Special Olympics a great deal.  In fact, I remember a specific time years ago when they had him climb up to the top of some horizontal poles that went all of the way up one wall of a tall gym, along with several other participants, of course.  He did a great job, everyone cheered, and then of course, they couldn’t get him to come down.  Luckily, the fire truck was there with firemen in tow, and they figured it all out.

I have been a ‘hugger’ at the end of many running races at the Special Olympics and had the joy of hugging the finishers as they came in, and I can assure you, there is nothing in the world like that.

At any rate, if you’d like to add this to your exercise routine for that week, come out and join us on March 8th at Lexington High School in the gym.  Stand by me for an extra laugh if you want!!  (I like to be fit, but I am not graceful….)

Take care,

Mary Clare
