Fitness Goals Through the Years. (Mary Clare Gatch)

What are my goals?  Well, they have morphed over the years.
When I was in middle school, I joined the track team.  I am pretty fast, though not the fastest.  My sole purpose was to do something that would keep me in shape.
This started many years of major running.  There were several years there that I ran 10-12 miles a day.
Fast forward to 10 years ago when I discovered the value of cross training:  getting my whole self in shape and not just my legs, weight lifting to add tone but also ward off osteoporosis, and developing core strength to protect my back.
Now?  Cross training is essential, yes.  But adding this…constantly learning new exercise formats and strategies to prevent injury.  Yes, those too.  But also, challenge myself to communicate this:  I look around me and see family and friends who are experiencing health issues.  I have none.  I will, I’m sure, but I can immediately cross the following straight off the list:
High blood pressure
Osteoporosis
High cholesterol
Anxiety and depression issues (as exercising boosts confidence and self esteem)
Weight control issues
Certain types of cancer
Arthritis battles
Low energy issues
Insomnia
Why would I not want to eliminate these?
And I keep asking myself, barring anything unforeseen, will I be able to travel and be otherwise active in my 60s, 70s, and 80s?  Yes.  I  sure of it.  Absolutely sure.
Why would I not want to share that?
The value of that knowledge?  Priceless.
